We have been happy to welcome quite a few visitors to the vineyard since it was planted - read what they had to say below.

The vineyard started to produce grapes in 2005, which was the first vintage that Palmina produced Honea Vineyard-designated wines; these wines have received very favorable reviews, which makes us believe we must be doing something right!

Please enjoy the reviews below.

Robert Parker, Jr reviewed the first Palmina wines from Honea Vineyard in his Wine Advocate:

"A knock-out bouquet of lemon rind, tropical fruit, and honey characterizes the 2005 Tocai Friulano Honea Vineyard. This fruity, dry, medium-bodied, pure, zesty, Tocai should be consumed over the next 1-2 years.
(90 points)"

"My favorite of the three Pinot Grigios is the 2005 Pinot Grigio Honea Vineyard. Its attractive orange skin and apple rind characteristics are accompanied by lovely fruit, medium body and a crisp personality. (90 points)"

"Little Arneis is made in Italy, and even less in California, but Palmina's 2005 Arneis Honea Vineyard is a powerful effort displaying ntoes of honeysuckle, flowers, herbs, and tropical fruits. It was fermented in steel as well as new and old oak.
(89 points)"

The LA Times visited Steve Clifton at Palmina and learned some of the history of the winery from him:

"The coup was Honea Vineyards," he says. In 2002, Clifton struck a deal with owner Milt Honea to plant 20 acres exclusively to Italian grape varieties selected by Clifton. "We made our first wines from those vines last year. This year, the vineyard allows us to expand our production from 5,000 cases a year to 10,000 cases."

The Palmina 2005 Tocai Friulano Honea Vineyard was featured in a mutli-course tasting menu at Alan Wong's in Hawaii. The menu featured dishes such as Moi carpaccio with kahuku sea asparagus and freshy truffle soy vinaigrette and chilled Kula strawberry and hibiscus soup. The Tocai was paired with Crispy Moi and Stuffed Mustard Cabbage with Oxtail and Asian Vegetable Ragout.

Acclaimed critic Francis Bown from Bown's Best visited Santa Barbara and enjoyed a wine from our vineyards at Wine Cask:

"My own, local white (Palmina Tocai Fruilano, Honea Vineyard, Santa Ynez Valley, 2005 - $48) had flavours of melon and kiwi and reminded me of a marsanne. "
